από την Τοπική Επιτροπή Πάρου της Ελληνικής Εταιρείας Περιβάλλοντος και Πολιτισμού στο Περιβαλλοντικό Πάρκο «Αϊ-Γιάννης Δέτης» της Πάρου.

Η ομιλία έχει θέμα «Η απειλή της Κλιματικής Aλλαγής και της απώλειας Βιοποικιλότητας μπορεί να γίνει ευκαιρία».

Written Parliamentary Questions in view of the upcoming International Whaling Commission (IWC) Meeting on 21-25 June 2010

 Through a written question under the priority procedure to the European Commission and the Council, Greek Socialist MEP, Kriton Arsenis, stresses the need for a coordinated and coherent EU position against the lifting of the moratorium on commercial whaling in the upcoming International Whaling Commission Meeting (IWC). Today, in the midst of the International Year of Biodiversity, it is imperative that the EU secures the continuation of the moratorium on commercial whaling, one of the world’s greatest wildlife conservation achievements, in force since 1986.

 Following the Parliamentary Question Kriton Arsenis made the following statement:

 ”Following the weaknesses in coordination among Member States and the difficulties in presenting a unified EU position that were observed during the Climate Change negotiations in Copenhagen and the CITES meeting in Doha, it is imperative that the same mistakes are not repeated and that the EU goes to the negotiating table with a clearly formulated common position against the lifting of the moratorium on commercial whaling. As 2010 is a milestone year for global efforts for the conservation of biodiversity, the EU has the opportunity to deliver a strong message by ensuring the conservation of this species which is essential for the sea food chain. I therefore urge the Commission and Member States to take action to ensure than 20 years of progress are not reversed in Agadir”.
